Always Take Notes

Customers expect you to care about them. This means being prepared when you meet them, including taking notes. Taking notes demonstrates that you care about what they are saying. Not taking notes communicates the opposite. When you do not take notes during meetings customers think, “Why am I bothering? … They will not remember what I am saying.” Thus, always take more notes than you give. Never borrow a pen or paper, always bring both; it is a sign of respect. Summarize your notes during follow-up to positively enhance your position. Wield the power of the pen.
